To skip the intro sequence and enter the game directly, hold down Alt or Fire.
Burn 'Out can be installed on a hard disc -- this version can be installed simply by copying the !Burn 'Out application to your hard disc.
At the top of most menu screens are Help and Done buttons. The Help button provides online information and Done confirms your choices and leaves the menu.

Pressing Alt or Fire will skip player selection and other play option menus, taking you straight to the racetrack. Wait for the introductory sequence to finish, then when the lights go green, accelerate!
Once the rev-bar at the bottom left of the screen turns red, press Change Gear and you will move to high gear.
Use the left and right keys to steer your buggy
Make good use of the gears and brakes to slow your buggy at critical points. It's better to slow down and avoid hitting an opponent, as this causes damage to your buggy and slows you dramatically.
Once a control method has been selected, the Edit menu for that option will be available; clicking on these icons allow you to redefine the currently selected control method. Keys, joystick movements and mouse button actions may all be redefined by the user.
Once you are happy with your selections, click on Done to return to the main menu. The selected control icon will appear on the main menu.
To change the settings, choose Burn 'Out Options from the main menu. This menu has a list of options, including music and graphic choices. Click the relevant button to adjust the required option. On/off options are shown with a green border when turned on.

The Twin Turbo is a powerful dune buggy with a light and responsive suspension. It is however, rather fragile and thin. | |
The Super Kart is a massively souped up and improved beach kart. A larger engine has been fitted but this makes the kart a bit unstable. | |
The V4 Hotbug is a combination of many cars. It's not really made for off-road racing, but is fast and a lot of fun. | |
The V2 4X4-SUS is so called because of its hyper-rigged suspension. It performs well off road and in Burn 'Out races. | |
The V6 Strider is a superbly designed off road vehicle. It is built like a tank and can withstand many knocks. |
Newcomers to the Burn 'Out championship are advised to race from Track 1, but old hands can try starting at level 3 or even level 6, but be warned that this will be rather tough with just the basic buggy which you must start with.
The Burn 'Out island map shows your progression through the championship. The map also gives other details about the course you are about to race.
Wait until the lights go green and then hit the accelerator. Once the rev-bar is in the red zone, press Change gear and you will enter the high gear.

If you didn't do well enough, your progress will be displayed on the map. If you have gained enough score for the scoreboard, you can enter your name at this point. You can then use your remaining credits to replay the track!
Tyres New tyres will help your steering and grip on cornering. | |
Gears A new gearbox will help your acceleration. | |
Engine An engine tune-up will improve your overall top speed. | |
Respray You can also respray your buggy at this point if the initial colour is not to your pleasing! |
After stopping at the garage you can then race on. Further zones are waiting to be completed!
Pressing F12 will quit the current game and allow you to return to the main menu.
